Common House Fly Control

The biggest and most common type of fly we handle is the common house fly. They are often called filth flies, as they like to hover around and feed off garbage and organic material. In addition, they pose health risks to humans, making them significant vectors of disease

As they feed on filthy things, they pick up bacteria and other dangerous materials on their feet and legs which they can then transfer onto food. This is dangerous as the common house fly can carry a variety of different diseases, including typhoid, cholera, dysentery, and salmonella, some of which can lead to severe food poisoning and even death in serious cases. Common house flies also can live up to 25 days, breed quickly and females can lay as much as 500 eggs in several batches.

Common signs of a housefly infestation include small, dark clusters of flies the size of a pinhead. They are often found in thin light fittings, upper areas of rooms (especially rooms with high ceilings), wall surfaces that are difficult to clean, and other areas that are hard to reach or sanitize, including drainage channel drains or sub-cavities. Regular reappearance of flies can also indicate infestation, as well as large numbers of flies present around garbage bins. Maggots are also another sign, as they are flies in their larvae stage and can indicate a potential breeding spot on your property.

They can be easily identified by their appearance, often ranging between the length of 1/8th and 1/4th of an inch, with the female flies typically ranging slightly larger than the males. All the adult flies share a grey-colored body, and their face usually has two stripes down the middle part while their body has four stripes down it. They also have typically dark red eyes, but they can also appear dark brown.

Red-Eyed Fruit Fly Control

Fruit flies are commonly found in houses and create a severe issue if left untreated. It’s easy to tell when you have an infestation, as you will notice a significant amount of very small gnat like bugs flying in the kitchen
or entertainment areas of the home where sugars are present in some form.

They are attracted to decomposing fruit as well as sugary liquids such as syrup, spilled soda, or alcohol. They often breed in areas that don’t get cleaned often, such as the corners of counters or edges of backsplashes. They lay eggs in rotting fruits and vegetables and reproduce quickly. Getting rid of them is also often difficult, as many people buy fruit fly tape strips hoping it will solve the problem. Unfortunately, this causes other sanitation problems and only attracts more flies.

While mostly a nuisance, fruit flies can transfer bacteria to fruit and other foods. This unsanitary situation should be avoided. Being proactive and contacting a professional pest control company like TermiGuard is often the best solution to avoid any contamination.

Cluster Fly Control

Another type of fly that we often treat, although less common, is the cluster fly. These flies are around 8 mm long and dark gray in color, with light scraggly patches of gold hair on their backs and long wings. They hibernate over winter in cracks and gaps inside the home and resurface outdoors in the spring, lay eggs in soil and peak in August. They feed on fruit and nectar from flowering bushes.

To get rid of them, it is imperative to call pest control experts, as trying to kill them by just vacuuming them up or by using a fly killer will not be effective.

They get their way through the homes through gaps under doors, around loose electrical outlets, under roof eaves, openings around cables, pipes, and through vents. They’re easy to identify because you’ll see a large quantity of lame or dead flies. It’s often common to find them in your loft, sunken spotlighting, and underneath insulated felt layers. They typically return year after year, and unless proper precautions are taken and entryways are sealed off, they will remain a persistent problem.

Cluster flies don’t directly affect humans, but they produce a lot of excrement that can stain the house, making it difficult to clean. They can cause irreparable damage to the areas that excrement lands on as it will ruin the surfaces it lands on and often requires the replacement of household belongings to get rid of the smell or of the stains it leaves behind.

Blow Fly Control

The blow fly is an unusual and annoying type of creature to deal with, and their metallic color and length can identify them, as they usually run 1/4th of an inch long. They are split into two groups, the green and blue bottle flies. Green bottle flies are metallic green and are active during the warmer months of the year, while blue bottle flies are metallic blue to black and are active in the cooler months of the year, but both can be found in urban and rural settings.

You’ll know you’ll have an infestation of these if you find large groups of flies gathered around animal carcasses, animal feces (including cat litter boxes), garbage piles, and piles of decaying vegetation, such as piles of leaves that might be found outside of windows. They can also be found behind walls, underneath floors, and in crawl spaces.

These flies are dangerous because they land on feces, dead animals, and other decaying organic matter. They often spread a lot of dangerous bacteria and diseases around with them on their legs and bodies which they can spread throughout the home. They can often pass along severe diarrhea and cholera as well as other serious pathogens. That can cause severe autoimmune issues or severe health consequences in people. While they are relatively harmless to animals, it’s vital to deal with them before they become a problem for your household.

Drain Fly Control

They’re also called sewer flies. These flies are identifiable by their length of 1/8 of an inch, but they like to gather around standing waters, such as areas that shower or where work drains are clogged. They’re often gray, and despite what their name implies, they don’t fly. But they do hop from surface to surface, and they won’t go away quickly on their own. They have a life span of three weeks, with new eggs hatching as quickly as every 40 hours.

Drain flies are a pain to deal with because they reproduce very quickly. They are not a danger to humans, as unlike other flies, they do not bite, sting, or spread diseases. However, the decaying bodies can cause allergic reactions in many individuals, especially those who are already immune compromised, and they can spread bacteria from trash decaying vegetables, and fruits.

A lot of areas that they like to breed are sinks, tubs, underneath washing machines, as well as any areas where there is standing water, dampness, and access to organic remains.
